Located in Shinjuku is a popular all-you-can-eat kushiage (deep-fried skewers) restaurant. Straight from Osaka, Kushiya Monogatari provides you with meat, fish, and vegetables in skewers (kushi) that you can deep-fried (age) it by yourself.
The restaurant is located close from the west exit of Shinjuku Station.
Big Manekineko in front of the building. Manekineko is a Japanese sculpture of a cat which is said to bring good luck.
For lunch time, it costs 1260 Yen for 60 minutes, plus 500 Yen for soft drink bar. You can also add an extra 30 minutes for 500 Yen. Dinner is a bit more expensive than lunch. It is quite normal in Japan that dinner is more expensive than lunch even though you order the same food.
Nice interior but the ventilation is not as good as I expected. You will ended up with smoke smell after eating.
Let me explain how to eat in here. First, you need to pick up the skewers of your choices from refrigerated cases.
There are lots of skewers that you can choose. Chicken, beef, fish, shrimp, scallops, mushrooms, breads, etc.
After bringing the skewers to your table, it is time to cook it by yourself.
Dip it in a paste first, and then bread crumbs. After that, put it inside the deep-fryer on your table. Each table has its own deep-fryer.
Now we just need to wait for a while.
And there you go. Some delicious kushiage are ready for you to eat. For me though, no matter which skewers you choose, everything tastes the same after you fried it. For those who don't like fried food, there are other food available for you.
You can make your own miso soup.
Yummy salads.
Oden and soba.
Rice and curry.
Wide variety of cakes.
Yummy dessert.
Kushiage Monogatari is located in Nishi-Shinjuku 1-3-1, Sunflower Bldg 5F. If you like fried food, I recommend you to go there. Don't eat there all the time though, it is not good for your health. ^^
