Matsuyama Castle

Matsuyama Castle
Matsuyama Castle (松山城) is definitely the best Castle I've been in Japan. The castle stands proud above the hill, right in the middle of the town. This castle is one of the preserved castle. It is still original, with a little bit of repair here and there because of the fire long time ago. It also offers you a gorgeous view of the city from the top. There is also a place where you can dress up as a samurai inside. And for non Japanese speakers, rejoice ! All of the history and description have very good English translation. It is a very impressive castle.

Matsuyama Castle
The castle is located on Mount Katsu. In order to get there, you will need to take ropeway or chairlift.

Matsuyama Castle
I picked the chairlift because chairlift usually gives you a better view and experience.

The stone walls. The stones are mostly granites and the corner sections are almost all stabilized by wooden logs.

The castle were skillfully design with repeated zigzag patterns and jutting corners to confuse visitors enemies. The stone walls have loopholes to be used as crossfire for defense tactic.

Great post, castle viewing in the winter is also stunning, but very cold. The castle has patterns to confuse people, lol seems like it.
