Teuchi Udon Kuukai

Teuchi Udon Kuukai
Last month I had a chance to visit to Shuunan City in Yamaguchi Prefecture for business trip. The city itself doesn't offer any interesting sightseeing spot, however the city does have a lot of delicious food to offer.

One of them that I really want to introduce is the Teuchi Udon Kuukai (手打うどんくうかい), the best udon that I've had eaten so far.

Tonki - Tonkatsu Restaurant

Tonki
Tonkatsu, deep fried pork cutlet, is no doubt one of my favorite Japanese foods. Why, oh why, does fried food taste so delicious ? Tokyo offers lots of Tonkatsu restaurants. The most famous one is probably Wako, a nationwide chain Tonkatsu restaurant. However, when we talk about personal recommendation, there are two places I would recommend. One is Katsukura in Shiodome, and the other one is Tonki in Meguro.

Georgetown Cupcake

Georgetown Cupcakes Red Velvet
I rarely eat a cake. Not because I don't like cake, I just prefer to eat other foods. However, if I live in DC, I would definitely treat myself once in a while with these delicious mouthwatering Georgetown Cupcakes.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Georgetown Cupcake, it is a cupcake bakery located in the Washington, D.C. The shop was founded by the two sisters, Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne, in February 2008. At that time, the Georgetown Cupcake was the first and the only cupcake bakery in the town. Georgetown Cupcake is a very well know cupcake bakery, they even has their own reality TV show called DC Cupcakes. There's even a story that people come to D.C. just to treat themselves with Georgetown Cupcake.

I was in DC a few weeks ago. I've tried Magnolia and Sprinkles Cupcakes before, so I needed to try Georgetown Cupcake to see how good they are. And they're good. Very, very goodddddd.

Hiroshima Okonomiyaki

Hiroshima Okonomiyaki
Most of you probably have heard about Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き). Some people call it the Japanese Pancake, others called it the Japanese Pizza. The name came from the word okonomi (to one's liking) and yaki (grill/cook). As the name implies, you could put whatever ingredients you want (cabbage, egg, cheese, meat, shrimp, scallop, pork, kimchi, etc) and cook it on top of an iron griddle called teppan.

Although there are many kinds of toppings and ingredients involved, you could separate okonomiyaki into two types, Osaka (or Kansai) Okonomiyaki and Hiroshima Okonomiyaki. In Osaka, we mix the batter and ingredients first inside a bowl and then cook it on the teppan. In Hiroshima, we layer the ingredients one by one on the teppan and then press it down together while cooking. If the Hiroshima okonomiyaki is served with a layer of noodles (either yakisoba or udon), the dish is called modanyaki (modern yaki).

Most restaurants in Tokyo serve the Osaka style Okonomiyaki. Recently, I had a chance to go to Hiroshima and taste the 'real' Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki.

Australia: Melbourne Food

Hutong Dumpling Bar
The food culture is strong in Melbourne. There are plenty of good restaurants, cafes, and open market to satisfy your hunger. I kinda wish some of those restaurants are in Japan to satisfy my need. :)

Time for Food Photos ! You have been warned. ^^

Sari Laut Palembang

Srikaya
Palembang, my hometown, is a capital city of South Sumatra in Indonesia. It's a nice little city. Although there is not many things you could do there, the food is delicious. One of the restaurant I could recommend is Sari Laut, a seafood restaurant.

Social House Jakarta

Social House 4
Other than photography, one thing that I like to do is doing Food Hunting. Located in Grand Indonesia, Social House is a new restaurant that is quite popular as a new hang out place in Jakarta. As a food hunter, I feel obligated to pay a visit there.

Kushiya Monogatari

IMG_5361
Located in Shinjuku is a popular all-you-can-eat kushiage (deep-fried skewers) restaurant. Straight from Osaka, Kushiya Monogatari provides you with meat, fish, and vegetables in skewers (kushi) that you can deep-fried (age) it by yourself.
